Camp day three

Today we talked about how to solve problems. We reviewed the calm down strategy (SAIL) and introduced TALK:

Think it through
Ask about the problem
Listen to what your friend is saying
Keep a friend solution

The girls made a TALK reminder as well.

The book readings were Sally Simmons Super Frustrating Day and (my favorite) I Love My New Toy.

You cannot quit when you are frustrated and you cannot solve a problem by crying.

The exercise was hula hoop games. SUPER fun!

Camp day two

Today we talked about what it means to be a friend and what to do when you get upset or worried. We introduced a calm down strategy SAIL.

Stop
And take a deep breath
In (1, 2, 3) and
Let it out (1, 2, 3, 4, 5)

Stressing the importance of breathing in through your nose and out through your mouth slowly.

The exercise of the day was yoga. Super fun!

I am proud to report that the girls brought in 61 canned goods for TABLE!

Here are some pics of our fun day!

Camp day one

What a fun first day of our summer program! We talked about the importance of “thinking it through” before making decisions and what it means to be a part of a community. The girls set a lofty goal of donating 100 cans of food to TABLE!

We taught the girls how to do bamboo dancing, also known as Tinikling. For more about the dance, visit this website. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tinikling

We chose it because it is super fun and requires girls to work together to make it work. We will practice more each day of camp.

The exercise of the day was running and we ended the day with some fun Minute It To Win It games.

The Minute to Win it games were a hit, as expected 🙂 First up, Face The Cookie. You have to get the cookie from your forehead to your mouth using only your facial muscles.

Next, Junk In The Trunk. Shake out all the balls from the tissue box. I am proud to report that my daughter did this in 11 seconds. The girl has moves!

Last, but lots of laughs, Bite Me. Get a bag using only your teeth and carry it to the table.

Minute it to win it!

For our upcoming summer program, we are including some fun games at the end of each lesson. Because we will have more time on certain days than others, we are going to do Minute it to win it games. My kiddos tested them out after a quick run to the Wal-Mart for needed supplies.

First up, Junk in the trunk. 8 ping pong balls in a tissue box attached to your backside. You have to jump around and get them all out in under a minute.

Then nose dive. You have to move 5 cotton balls using only your nose and Petroleum Jelly from one bowl to another in under a minute.

photo 2

Last, but the most entertaining to watch….Bite Me. You have to move 5 bags in different sizes using only your mouth.
